Established in April 2016, Fresno Women Read is a small community organization dedicated to creating literary events, including readings and community classes, with a focus on women and nonbinary writers with ties to Fresno and California’s Central Valley.
We center our work on building connections between academic and community resources, and collaborating with other community groups who strive to decolonize our bookshelves, our syllabi, and our literary programming. We believe in the power that builds within a community when abundant space is created for the voices of people who identify as women or gender nonbinary, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, people with identities at the intersections of race, gender, class, sexual orientation, ability, age, size, and documentation status, and when folks show up to listen to and learn from one another.
We know that a platform is a privilege, and we exist for our community; our primary goal is to make our work increasingly accessible and inclusive—do not hesitate to let us know how we can make this website, our events, or other aspects of our work align with these values. We are, always, grateful for your support.
